Ignazio Giunti was a highly regarded sports-car driver who earned a Formula One chance with Ferrari in 1970. In the 1970 Italian Grand Prix, Giunti qualified well, but the race itself was challenging, and he ultimately retired at Monza. This particular event was also tragically notable for the fatal practice crash of championship leader Jochen Rindt.
